Enter movie mode properly
Set the Shoot Mode dial to Movie, then pick the movie mode in the Fn menu — most choose Manual or Shutter Priority for full control.
The 180-degree shutter rule
Shutter speed = double the frame rate for natural motion blur:

Capture settings
- Codec: XAVC S for highest quality (prefers SD-XC cards); files save as MP4 under PRIVATE → M4ROOT. Use the highest "M-number" (e.g. 100M). 4K is great but heavy for long clips — a cinematic starting point is 4K 25p.
- Aspect ratio: 16:9. Aperture: wider than f/8 (also hides sensor dust).
- Focus: Continuous AF (AF-C).
- Zebra: 100+ to catch blown highlights, or 70–80 to monitor skin tones.
- Audio: turn the Audio Level Display on (assigned to the AEL custom key) and monitor levels while filming.
- Format the card, charge the battery, and keep the camera/tripod free of vibration; capture RAW stills when dynamic range is high.
